Residential Habilitation/Group Home

Residential habilitation/group home is a service provided by a licensed DD provider. With residential habilitation, a person can get support every hour of every day as they need it. The person can also learn new skills to take better care of themself. They can learn safety skills and how to make friends. They can also get support trying new activities.

To get this type of service, a person must meet a certain level of need. If they need more help, the Division will work with them to see if they match with this service. If they do, they will live with other people with disabilities who also get DD services. The person will have their own bedroom, or they can share a bedroom. They will share a bathroom, living room, and kitchen. Staff will come into the home to help them and their housemates. This is called a group home. People who live in a group home pay room and board and work together to do chores.

The person will continue to make choices about how they spend their days. They can decide the activities they want to do and when they want to do them. They can also decide who they want to visit them and when.
