RI Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics

Rhode Island’s Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) launched on October 1, 2024.

A CCBHC is an outpatient clinic that is certified by the State of Rhode Island to offer expanded behavioral health services. CCBHCs serve anyone who walks through the door, regardless of age, diagnosis, or insurance status. At a CCBHC, a team of trained health professionals can:
•      provide mental health support to you or a loved one,
•      help you or a loved one with a substance use condition, and/or
•      provide 24/7 crisis support.

What is 24/7 mobile crisis response?

Sometimes people who struggle with mental health or substance use have an emergency. When that happens, it may feel difficult or impossible to get help. You can call 988 to get connected with a CCBHC’s mobile crisis response team 24/7 for help with a behavioral health emergency.

“Mobile crisis response” means trained behavioral health specialists can come to you when and where you need it. Whether you’re requesting help for yourself or a loved one, CCBHCs’ mobile teams are trained to:

  • assess the individual experiencing the emergency,
  • de-escalate or calm down crisis situations, and
  • connect people to needed services.

When you call 988 to connect with a CCBHC’s 24/7 crisis line, a trained professional will ask you questions to determine what kind of response that would be best for you or your family member.

Depending on the nature of the crisis, they may recommend:

  • an appointment at a CCBHC near you that day,
  • an appointment at a CCBHC near you the next day,
  • a mobile crisis response where trained health professionals come to you, or
  • an emergency response.

For a health emergency, like severe chest pain, trouble breathing, seizures, or a head injury, call 911 or go to the emergency room right away. You should also call 911 if you or someone you care about are in immediate danger or threatening to hurt themselves.

What kind of health insurance do CCBHCs accept?

CCBHCs can help you and your family get the behavioral health care you need. CCBHCs serve anyone who asks for support, regardless of their ability to pay, where they live, or their age. This includes developmentally appropriate care for children and youth.

You can get behavioral health care at any CCBHC no matter what kind of health insurance you have, or if you don't have insurance. If you have health insurance through Medicaid, HealthSource RI, or an employer, CCBHC staff will ask for your insurance information.
