Special Notes

Visitation Protocol – All Units Are Operating at Level 3 (Please note: certain units may be quarantined based on testing, which occurs weekly so please check with individual units before planning your visit.)

Visitation Protocol – Regan, Adolf Meyer, and Zambarano Units: Level 3

Eleanor Slater Hospital in accordance with the RI Department of Health guidance for visitation will transition from no visitation allowed to allowing visitors for non-infected, asymptomatic, non-quarantined patients and there have been no positive COVID-19 cases (patients and/or healthcare workers) in the previous 14 days in the Regan, Adolf Meyer, or Zambarano buildings.

For all visitation the following criteria must be met:

  1. Visitation is scheduled in advance with the patient’s Social Worker and limited up to one (1) hour depending on staffing. Social Services will notify nursing and activities of the scheduled visitation.
  2. Visitation will be conducted outside in the designated areas (Regan Courtyard, Adolf Meyer Courtyard, Zambarano Picnic). Visitors are allowed in the designated area only.
  3. During inclement weather, visitation may be conducted in the following indoor areas: Arnold Conference Center, AM Canteen, Zambarano Auditorium.
  4. For simultaneous indoor visitations, nursing will ensure the designated visitor areas comply with the recommended 150 square feet area per person to support physical distancing.
  5. Visitors enter at the designated entrance for each building (Regan front entrance, Adolf Meyer front entrance, Zambarano ambulance entrance) and register with Security. A visitor badge will be issued and be visible at all times.
  6. Visitors will perform hand hygiene upon entering the building and frequently thereafter.
  7. Visitors will participate in a screening process for potential illness including temperature upon entering the building. Visitors are expected to provide complete and accurate responses to screening questions.
  8. Visitors will not be allowed entrance if they are symptomatic, have been in contact with a COVID-19 positive person in the last 14 days, have travelled by air/train/ship within the last 14 days, have travelled from an area requiring quarantine or are awaiting a COVID-19 test result.
  9. All visitors are required to wear a face covering while on hospital grounds.
    • Masks will be provided if the face covering worn by the visitor is inadequate
    • Visitors who fail to wear a mask/face covering will be asked to leave the hospital
  10. Visitation will be up to one (1) hour staff permitting.
  11. Visitation will be limited to two (2) people over the age of 18.
  12. Visitors will maintain a minimum of six feet distance from the patient. Brief/limited physical contact (e.g. hand holding) may be permitted if desired by both the patient and their visitor. Hand hygiene with an alcohol based (60%) hand sanitizer is must be performed before and after contact. Embracing/hugging is allowed for brief periods as long as both individuals are wearing masks.
  13. Any exceptions to this protocol must be preapproved by a COVID team member.

Visitation Protocol – Benton Building: Level 3

Eleanor Slater Hospital in accordance with the RI Department of Health guidance for visitation will transition from no visitation allowed to allowing visitors for non-infected, asymptomatic, non-quarantined patients and there have been no positive COIVD-19 cases (patients and/or healthcare workers) in the previous 14 days in the Benton building.

For all visitation the following criteria must be met:

  1. Visitation must be scheduled in advance with the patient’s social worker. Social services will notify nursing of the scheduled visitation. Only one patient may have visitation at a time.
  2. Visitation will be limited to 30 minutes.
  3. Visitation will be conducted in the Benton No Contact Visitor Room. Visitors are allowed in the designated area only.
  4. Visitation will be limited to one (1) person over the age of 18.
  5. All visitors are required to wear a face covering while on hospital grounds.
    • Masks will be provided if the face covering worn by the visitor is inadequate
    • Visitors who fail to wear a mask/face covering will be asked to leave the hospital
  6. Visitors enter at the designated entrance for each building and immediately report to Security.
  7. Visitors will perform hand hygiene upon entering the building.
  8. Security will alert an RN to conduct the screening process for potential illness.
  9. Visitors will participate in a screening process for potential illness including temperature upon entering the building. Visitors are expected to provide complete and accurate responses to screening questions.
  10. Visitors will not be allowed entrance if they are symptomatic, have been in contact with a COVID-19 positive person in the last 14 days, have travelled by air/train/ship within the last 14 days, have travelled from an area requiring quarantine or are awaiting a COVID-19 test result.
